The release for the highly anticipated iPad is less than a month away (April 3rd) and the first commercial has launched to introduce the tablet PC. It could be classified as an oversized iPhone, but this device will surely change the way we use computers and technology. It will also be the white knight to a distressed publishing industry, transforming the way we all read books and newspapers. Other than that I’ll have to say the iPad is the coolest looking touch-screen computer anyone can own.
I was in a surf shop over the weekend and drawn to these sleek sunglasses made by Raen Optics. What I like most about their sunglasses is they have taken classic european styles and incorporated many aspects of California surf culture. The label which only launched back in 2008 seems to have both of their feet on the ground as they are already distributing to international countries such as Australia, Japan and China. Check out the entire collection on the Raen website along with thier new 2010 products.
Keeping up with Stonesthrow, Mayer Hawthrone’s new video ‘I Wish it Would Rain’ was recently released. If you haven’t heard the album ‘A Strange Arrangement’, Hawthorne is a musical genius injecting soul and jazz influences into his own works and bringing back classic sounds of Motown. Not only does the young man from Ann Arbor, Michigan produce all his songs, but he also sings and plays many of the instruments on each of the tracks. I think that it’s amazing to see and hear what this man is capable of. Watch his new video ‘I Wish it would Rain’.
Here is the final installment of the three part J Dilla series produced by Stussy X Stonesthrow. If you have not seen the first two you can view it here (part 1 and part 2). Also if you still want to pick up the limited edition Stussy X J Dilla t-shirt there are only a few left on the Stussy website.
Impulse purchases can sometimes be a bad thing but for many of us we justify it as good old retail therapy. The new Comune collection appeared earlier this week on Oak NYC and the Stone Green Turkey Pullover was the first to catch my eye. The long sleeve cotton hoodie has a zip-up kangaroo pouch pocket, front side placket which extends just above the front lower neck when buttoned up and black drawstrings around the waste and hood. I especially love the green stone print and to justify the my desire for the hoodie, I know it’s something I’ll wear often.
Through the 80’s and 90’s singer/songwriter Sade gave us massive hit songs like Smooth Operator, Sweetest Taboo and No Ordinary Love. Till this day those songs are still recognized and played around the world. We think it’s amazing to see talented artists that can withstand time and are able to continue to produce exceptional music.
Last month Sade released her 6th full length album, ‘Soldier of Love’. Reviews have been very mainly positive by music critics and after the first week the album sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone, making it her first debut at number one. With her first single ‘Soldier of Love’ Sade shows us that she still has what it takes to be a great artist.
I’ll have to admit it took me a while to embrace the Pointer label, but watching them grow and develop over the years the footwear company has come a long way in such a short period of time. The company’s success can be attributed to the simple, comfortable and distinct style of footwear they have been producing from day one. Pointer which is based in London recently released their spring/summer 2010 collection which includes an upgraded version of the Pointer Mathieson’s. The mid-cut Mathieson’s look better than ever with cream canvas and suede materials used for the exterior. Gum soles complete the bottom side of each shoe. These have definitely won me over.
